As a school year like no other comes to a close, we would like to acknowledge the remarkable contribution Brooke Elementary School has made to the children and families of Austin ISD. Because of the hard work of our staff, students and families, we were able to implement a continuous learning plan that helped our families stay engaged through these extraordinary times.

We recognize the challenges of this school year were even greater for the Brooke community and wish to recognize them for their resilience and dedication.

For 66 years, Brooke has lived up to its vision of fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment with the belief that every child is unique and has special abilities, needs and individual ways of making sense of the world. 

The decision to close Brooke was not easy for anyone. It was especially hard on students, alumni, parents and campus staff.

The district recognizes the Brooke site is a community asset and is committed to working with community members, families and other stakeholders to explore repurposing options that are responsive to their needs and will allow the site to continue to benefit the community. The district will offer engagement opportunities to gather input regarding the future use of the site. 

Please know our Board is committed to honoring the legacy of Brooke and the students, families and staff who have walked their halls.

We want to extend a special thank you to Brooke Principal Griselda Galindo-Vargas who admirably led her campus community with grace and compassion. We also wish to applaud the staff and faculty for their perseverance and unyielding commitment to the children. And that’s what Austin ISD aims to do: serve as Austin’s home for learning with a focus on discovering and cultivating the unique gifts, talents and interests every child possesses.

A medida que completamos un año sin precedentes, nos gustaría reconocer la destacable contribución que la Primaria Brooke ha realizado a los niños y familias de Austin ISD. Gracias al duro trabajo de nuestro personal, estudiantes y familias, fuimos capaces de implementar un plan de aprendizaje continuo que ayudó a que nuestras familias permanezcan involucradas a lo largo de estos tiempos extraordinarios.

Somos conscientes de que los desafíos de este año escolar fueron superiores para la comunidad de la Primaria Brooke y deseamos reconocer su resiliencia y dedicación.

Durante 66 años, la Primaria Brooke se ha mantenido fiel a su visión de promover un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y propicio con la convicción de que cada niño es único y tiene capacidades, necesidades y maneras individuales especiales de darle sentido a la vida. 

La decisión de cerrar Brooke no fue fácil para nadie. Fue especialmente difícil para los estudiantes, ex alumnos, padres y maestros del plantel.

El distrito reconoce que el lugar de la Primaria Brooke es un recurso comunitario y se compromete a trabajar con los miembros de la comunidad, las familias y otros interesados para explorar opciones de readaptación que respondan a sus necesidades y permitan que el lugar continúe beneficiando a la comunidad. El distrito ofrecerá oportunidades de participación para recabar comentarios acerca del futuro uso del lugar. 

Tengan en cuenta que nuestra Mesa Directiva se compromete en honrar el legado de Brooke y a los estudiantes, las familias y al personal que han recorrido sus pasillos.

Queremos darle un agradecimiento especial a la directora de la Primaria Brooke, Griselda Galindo-Vargas que lideró admirablemente la comunidad de su escuela con gracia y compasión. También deseamos reconocer al personal y al equipo docente por su perseverancia y su firme compromiso con los niños. Y eso es lo que pretende hacer Austin ISD: servir como el hogar en Austin para el aprendizaje con el enfoque en descubrir y cultivar los dones, talentos e intereses únicos que cada niño posee.
