Statement from the Board President on behalf of the AISD Board of Trustees

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees on April 27, 2020, accepted the resignation of our superintendent, Dr. Paul Cruz. Dr. Cruz will be stepping down from the role of superintendent effective Aug. 31, 2020, and he will serve as superintendent emeritus until Dec. 31, 2020.  
 
We appreciate Dr. Cruz’s leadership throughout the years, and especially over the past seven weeks through the COVID-19 pandemic. He has led our District in mitigating risks during this unprecedented time with a focus on the safety, learning, and social and emotional needs of our students, families and our community.

His departure is bittersweet. While it will be hard to see him go, we are nevertheless very proud of his accomplishments here in the District and we are eager to see him thrive at the University of Texas. Dr. Cruz has been and continues to be our collaborative partner in the governance of the District. We congratulate him as he embarks on his next professional challenge and we are glad he and his family will continue to live in Austin.  
 
In terms of the Austin ISD superintendent search, we expect to complete the process no later than Aug. 31, 2020. While so much has changed and continues to change in our daily lives as a result of the pandemic, our fundamental AISD mission, vision and values remain the same. 

You can continue to expect transparency and communication in this process, and in turn, we expect your input and advocacy on what is going well with the District and what qualities you would like to see in the next superintendent. With your help, we will succeed in our goal to find the best possible leader for our District.

Declaración del presidente de la mesa directiva en representación de la mesa directiva del AISD:

El 27 de abril de 2020 la mesa directiva del Austin ISD aceptó la renuncia de nuestro superintendente Dr. Paul Cruz. El Dr. Cruz dejará las funciones correspondientes al cargo de superintendente el 31 de agosto de 2020 y servirá como superintendente emérito hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2020.  
 
Agradecemos el liderazgo que el Dr. Cruz ha demostrado a través de los años y especialmente durante las últimas siete semanas con la pandemia de la COVID-19. Ha liderado nuestro distrito al mitigar los riesgos durante estos tiempos sin precedentes con un enfoque en la seguridad, el aprendizaje y las necesidades sociales y emocionales de nuestros estudiantes, nuestras familias y nuestra comunidad.

Su partida viene con una mezcla de sentimientos. Aunque será duro verlo partir, estamos muy orgullosos de sus logros aquí en el distrito y estamos ansiosos de verlo prosperar en la Universidad de Texas. El Dr. Cruz ha sido y sigue siendo nuestro compañero colaborador en el gobierno del distrito. Lo felicitamos en su lanzamiento a un nuevo reto profesional y nos alegra que él y su familia continuarán viviendo en Austin.  
 
En términos de la búsqueda de superintendente del Austin ISD, esperamos completar el proceso a más tardar el 31 de agosto de 2020. Mientras que muchas cosas han cambiado y continúan cambiando en nuestro diario vivir como consecuencia de la pandemia, nuestra misión, visión y valores fundamentales del AISD siguen siendo los mismos. 

Pueden seguir esperando transparencia y comunicación en este proceso y esperamos recibir sus opiniones y apoyo sobre lo que está funcionando bien en el distrito, y las cualidades les gustaría ver en el siguiente superintendente. Con su ayuda, cumpliremos con éxito nuestro objetivo de encontrar el mejor líder posible para nuestro distrito.
