Easterseals Central Texas and Austin ISD are exploring an 1882 partnership to offer transition-aged young adults with autism and related neurodivergent conditions a new transition program.
An 1882 partnership is named for the Texas Legislature Senate Bill 1882 signed into effect in 2017. The bill incentivizes districts to work collaboratively with new and existing partners to promote innovation and expand the diversity of school options.
This program would be focused on creative arts and technology with a goal of training students to participate in the workforce. By entering into an 1882 partnership with ESCTX, and specifically its Greenleaf Neurodiversity Community Center, AISD would be able to provide transition services to students.
The program aims to help those who who have completed high school courses, want to continue academic studies and show a continued need for vocational and independent living skills not offered by an existing AISD program.
Please join us in this community conversation to ask questions and share ideas that will shape the development of the proposal.
