On May 21, the Murchison Matadors Community gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Murchison Middle School as the modernization moves into the construction phase. Murchison MS is one of the campuses receiving a full modernization as part of the 2017 AISD Bond Program. The school will undergo Phase 1 of the full modernization, including a sixth-grade addition, library and administration relocation, annex roofing, and bus loop addition.
The morning event featured special performances by the Murchison MS Band and eloquent poetry reading of "An Ode to Murchison" by Mia Schock highlighting many great memories at the school. The event also included remarks by Murchison Principal Newton, Austin ISD Trustee Kristin Ashy, and Austin ISD Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz.
The ceremony concluded with the actual groundbreaking itself. Students and staff rolled up their sleeves and picked up a shovel and shoved the soil, marking a new beginning for the future for the students at Murchison Middle School.
Thank you to everyone who joined this special community gathering, and for your continued support as AISD creates 21st-century learning spaces for all students!
