Austin ISD is thankful to the many businesses, families and individuals who have graciously contributed bottled water to our students, faculty and staff this week.
At this point (Friday afternoon) our bottled water supply is plentiful, and we are no longer in need of donations.
It is estimated our current inventory will get us through the anticipated remaining days of this situation.
Should this status change, we are confident our responsive community will hear and respond to our request. We are appreciative.

All AISD classes and operations will continue on a regular schedule tomorrow, Oct. 24, including after-school and extracurricular activities.
Again, district leaders made the decision based on the water resources we have at hand and on the most recent information from the Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center.
We ask that families and staff continue to boil water at home and bring it to school tomorrow.
We are thankful for our families and staff who have embraced the sustainable practice of boiling water to bring in a reusable bottle. We have delivered water to all campuses and will continue to provide water to students in-need. However, students who are able to bring their own water help us continue operations because there is less demand on the AISD supply.
We appreciate the community effort to keep school operations as normal as possible! Schools will also continue to accept donations of sealed, bottled water.
AISD staff continue to work with city and county officials in ensuring that we receive enough resources for our schools to operate safely. We understand that the State's Department of Public Safety for Emergency Management has committed to providing water deliveries to support school operations.
Schools and cafeterias will maintain safety precautions we have had in place such as covering or closing water fountains, boiling water for all cafeteria uses and offering hot vegetables and fruits with peels to students and staff.

Estamos muy agradecidos con las familias y el personal que han tomado esta practica de hervir el agua que traen en una botella reusable. Hemos repartido agua a todas las escuelas y continuaremos ofreciendoles agua a los estudiantes que la necesiten. Sin embargo, los estudiantes que puedan traer su propia agua nos ayudaran a continuar con las operaciones porque hay menos demanda en la entrega del AISD.

All AISD classes will continue on a regular schedule tomorrow, Oct. 23. We have made this decision based on information from the Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center.
Families and staff should continue to boil water at home and bring it to school tomorrow.
Precautions we have taken today and that will continue tomorrow include:
- Campuses will continue to accept donations of sealed, bottled water.
- Drinking fountains were covered or closed to prevent use by staff or students.
- Campus staff provided boiled and bottled water to any students in need.
Our food services staff also took extra precautions to safely feed our students and staff today, and will follow the same protocols tomorrow:
- Cafeteria menus were adjusted to include hot vegetables, canned fruit and fresh fruits with peels such as orange and bananas.
- No salad bars were available, but baby carrots and precut celery are safe and will continue to be served.
- All water used for cooking, washing produce, washing hands and making ice is being brought to a vigorous boil before use.
- Kitchen staff are working to conserve as much water as possible.
We encourage everyone to talk to their students about the city’s water situation and about the importance of following the boil water requirements as we work to stay healthy and hydrated.

We continue to monitor the City of Austin’s boil water notice and are taking safety precautions at our schools. As of right now, school is still scheduled as normal for tomorrow and we will update you if that changes.
Please know, today we took the following safety precautions on our campuses:
- Drinking fountains were covered or closed so students did not use them.
- Cafeteria menus were adjusted to include hot vegetables, and fruits such as apples and oranges. No salad bars were offered today.
- Cafeteria managers followed boil instructions for safety.
- Water was delivered to campuses and school staff supplied any student in need with water. Campuses accepted donations of bottled water.

What should I do if a boil water notice has been issued?
Do not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least three minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, food preparation, and water for pets. Boiling kills harmful bacteria and other organisms in the water that may cause illness. You should throw away ice made during the time the notice was issued (freezing does not kill bacteria).
Is the water safe for washing dishes, laundry, and bathing?
The water is safe for washing dishes, but you should use hot, soapy water and rinse dishes in boiled water. There are no restrictions on doing laundry. The water is also safe for bathing.
How do I prepare food and baby formula?
Only use boiled or bottled water for cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and making baby formula. If you must use water to make formula, use bottled water. If you don't have bottled water, use water that has been rapidly boiled for at least three minutes.
How long will the need to boil water continue?
Customers should not stop boiling the water until they receive notice from Austin Water. Typically the need to boil water lasts for 24 to 48 hours, but can be longer. How long will depend on the conditions that caused the need to boil, how quickly the conditions are corrected, and how long it takes for laboratory results to confirm it is safe to return to normal water use. Austin Water will provide updates on the progress of corrective actions and how long the event is expected to last.

Because of the recent flooding, the city of Austin’s Emergency Operations Center has issued a boil water notice for all retail and wholesale locations throughout the city.
Austin ISD is continuing to monitor the ongoing situation. The district has enough resources on hand for today, and all AISD campuses and offices are operating on a normal schedule.
In light of the water boil notice, we have taken the following precautions:
• Drinking fountains are being covered or closed so students do not use them.
• Cafeteria managers are following boil instructions for safety.
• Menus have been adjusted to include hot vegetables, and fruits such as apples and oranges. No salad bars will be offered today.
Students are encouraged to bring their own drinking water or other beverage such as juice, sports drinks, etc. from home. Schools will also supply any student in need with water. Campuses will accept donations of bottled water in the meantime.
Our students' health and safety is of utmost importance to us. Thank you for your flexibility and support.
