Austin High School honored over 480 seniors at their graduation ceremony this morning at the Frank Erwin Center.
The Class of 2018 recorded several noteworthy accomplishments, including:
- Austin High’s Play Company—Indigo Raetz, Kasi Moreno, Madison Cross, Kendall Cassinger and Becky Keenan—won 2nd in State with their One-Act Play.
- The Stephen F. Austin High School Band marched in London for the New Year’s Day Parade.
- After Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico, Sarah Rosas Lago found a new home in Austin. She is now a loyal forever Austin High Maroon!
- Marina Monsivais was recognized for her acceptance into MIT.
The salutatorian’s address was delivered by two students, Sofia De La Morena and Cameron Thompson, who tied for the honors.
“Austin High allowed me to become better by being myself. I learned how to turn different into authentic,” Sofia De La Morena said.
Cameron Thompson encouraged classmates to “Use your fear to fuel your courage. Fear is what makes it exciting.”
Valedictorian Keaton Cruzcosa spoke about the obstacles you face in life and in high school.
"Life, like high school, will throw a lot of obstacles at you. Some you will meet gracefully, but others will make you stumble. It's whether or not you let those stumbles turn into complete collapses that will define you,” Cruzcosa said.
Congratulations to the Austin High School Class of 2018! We’re #AISDProud of our #AISDGrads!
