Garza Independence High School honored 65 seniors at their graduation ceremony this evening at the Frank Erwin Center.
The ceremony included an address by the school’s namesake, Gonzalo Garza, who shared advice and praise with the graduates.
"I am honored to be with you on this very special occasion and I want to congratulate each and every one of you," he said. "May only good things come your way and may the future bring joy, much success and happiness."
Superintendent Paul Cruz celebrated several of the school's noteworthy accomplishments from the year, including:
- Garza seniors were accepted to more than 25 four-year colleges and universities throughout the United States and received more than $1 million in scholarships.
- The Garza Academic Society, made up of President Sayler Tyson, Mye Guarnero, Cierra Cervantez and Bailey Dettmer, donated more than 150 gifts to families at Christmas.
Garza graduate Sayler Tyson gave the commencement address and celebrated the non-linear path to success Garza students take each year.
“I find it astounding that we have dedicated the last 13 years to this accomplishment and we did it!” she said. “As I look at this class of 2018, I see the next generation of innovators and game-changers. Thank you and congratulations — now to the next finish line.”
Congratulations to the Garza Independence High School Class of 2018! We’re #AISDProud of our #AISDGrads!
