Akins, Bowie and McCallum high schools, along with Kealing and Gorzycki middle schools, were presented Crown Awards by The Columbia Scholastic Press Association for scholastic publications at the CSPA 94th Annual Convention.
The Crown Awards honor top student publications chosen from CSPA’s members. Crowns are selected for overall excellence in a side-by-side comparison.

This year, 1,100 digital, print newspapers, magazines and yearbooks published during the 2016-17 academic year were eligible for judging in the 2018 Crown Awards Program.
Student publishing in news, magazine, yearbook or digital formats are all eligible.
During Crown consideration, publications are judged on their excellence based on their design, photography, concept, coverage and writing.
Publications are considered for awards at Columbia by panels of judges who review each publication.

The CSPA is an international student press association uniting student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges and award programs. The association has been owned by Columbia University since 1925 and operates as a program affiliated with its Graduate School of Journalism.
