The 2017 McCallum Knights football team continues to blaze a trail through the postseason after defeating fourth-ranked Corpus Christi Calallen 20-7 in the UIL State Quarterfinal round of the playoffs Dec. 9.
“I like the Cinderella story just because it’s motivation for us every single game,” said senior quarterback Maxwell Perez. “They say we weren’t meant to be or it’s just luck for us. It’s no luck for us. It’s just hard work, dedication and family.”
McCallum improves to 14-0 on the season and now finds itself in the State Semifinal round—one of just four teams remaining in the Class 5A Division 2 bracket.
The Knights are set to take on the College Station Cougars (12-2) with a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston.
A win would send the Knights to the state championship game and would be the first appearance in the final round for an Austin ISD team since Reagan advanced in 1973.
