Students at 23 campuses will enjoy an additional day off next week—while faculty and staff expand their professional learning—as District of Innovation schedule changes begin at the campus level.
When the Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the district's innovation plan in March, AISD officially became a District of Innovation.
This meant the district, campuses and vertical teams had more control over several key areas, including schedule changes.
AISD took advantage of this flexibility to start classes districtwide a week earlier this fall.
Vertical teams are also allowed to schedule additional professional development days for staff, thus creating extra holidays for students.
Six vertical teams opted to include those extra days this year—Akins and Anderson high schools; and Crockett, Eastside Memorial, LBJ and Travis early college high schools.
The first additional professional development day will be Sept. 25 at these campuses:
- Akins High School and LBJ Early College High School
- Gus Garcia YMLA, Martin Middle School, Sadler Means YWLA and Paredes Middle School
- Andrews, Blanton, Blazier, Casey, Harris, Jordan, Kocurek, Langford, Linder, Menchaca, Norman, Overton, Palm, Pecan Springs, Perez and Sims elementary schools
- Uphaus Early Childhood Center
