It has taken 364 days to construct and finish the building that gave Austin ISD students the opportunity to use their construction skills to create their own learning environment.
The Construction Technology Trades Building on the Crockett High School campus will be dedicated in a public ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 12.
The exterior of the building was completed to code to allow students to provide the finish work within the building. Now that it is completed, AISD students can continue to learn and sharpen those skills.
The 9,200-square-foot builidng cost approximately $2 million in bond funds. It houses two classrooms to support course instruction in carpentry, woodworking, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and, in the future, welding.
An additional 1,400 square feet of covered outdoor work area expands the useable instruction space and protects students from the elements.
All this space enables Career and Technical Education program instructors to meet the needs of Crockett High School students and Austin’s thriving construction industry.
