The Austin ISD Board of Trustees has selected Yasmin Wagner as the new District 7 trustee.

The board made the decision at its regular meeting last night. Wagner and accountant Johnathan Sump had applied to fill former trustee Robert Schneider's position.

Wagner, a corporate communications and marketing manager, has lived in District 7 for nearly six years and in Austin for more than 20.

"As a parent of two children who currently attend District 7 schools, I understand what makes our community strong and where we struggle to feel heard and have our needs met in our schools," Wagner wrote in her application for the position.

Wagner earned 48 percent of the vote when she challenged Schneider for the seat in November's election. She will hold the District 7 position until the next election, which will take place in November 2016.
