Texas PTA has named Austin High School teacher Sebastian Espinoza as Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Every year, the association honors five Texas teachers who dedicate their time and service to students while recognizing the mission and purpose of Texas PTA.
“We receive hundreds of nominations to recognize deserving educators who truly represent PTA’s mission of making every child’s potential a reality. Mr. Espinoza’s efforts to engage families and create a safe and healthy environment for every child is what makes him the best of the best,” said Texas PTA President Leslie Boggs.
Espinoza teaches pre-engineering in the Career and Technical Education Department at Austin High. Prior to AHS, he taught at the Akins High School STEM Academy.
"I love teaching because it keeps me young. I've worked at engineering firms in the private sector, but teaching gives me a fresh perspective," he said. "There are many paths to a solution, and being able to create your own pathway allows mental freedom and creativity."
Austin ISD Board Trustee Amber Elenz nominated Espinoza for the award.
