Fewer than 10 words into her welcome to families and supporters, Elizabeth Dickey had to pause to keep from crying.
Seven students received their diplomas today from the Rosedale School, where Dickey serves as principal.
"These young adults have taught us, most of all, how to be better, happier people," she said.
This is the second year for Rosedale’s Transition to Life in the Community program, which supports students as they prepare for life after graduation.
Five of the graduates participated in the program, and all seven have held some type of outside job.
"We're incredibly grateful to the local businesses who have invited our students in," Dickey said.
The school’s Life Skills teacher and director of the TLC program, Angela Del Grande, was named AISD's High School Teacher of the Year.
Emotional every year, the ceremony honoring the class of 2015 was no exception. Parents, friends and teachers spoke on behalf of each of the graduates.
"It wasn't until we got to Rosedale that we found a place where she fit," said the mother of graduate Mary Magdalene.
