Nearly 300 volunteers and 60 AISD staff members began work at Blackshear Elementary School this morning on an extensive project to beautify and improve the school grounds.
Blackshear Principal Betty Jenkins said she couldn't thank the workers enough for their help improving the look of the campus.
"This is a dream come true for me," Jenkins said. "I have a 16-page wish list of projects, and after today our school will have a new track, paved walkways and freshly painted doors. Without all these volunteers, this work would have taken months to do."
Volunteers included Entrepreneur Foundation CEO Eugene Sepulva and employees from Adlucent, AT&T, BankVue, Cloudera, CreditCards.com, Enspire Learning, SailPoint, Thinkwell and Troux Technologies.
Austin ISD Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz also attended to share his support with the volunteers.
Mark Wood Design created the master plan, and Diana Su of Page was the architect.
