Employee Perk: Tuesday is AISD Day at the Austin Film Festival

The Austin Film Festival invites all AISD faculty and team members to AISD Day, Tuesday, Oct. 28. For one day only, bring your AISD employee badge to an AFF venue (excluding the Paramount Theatre) and stand in the priority film pass line for free access to films.

World premiere of "The Texas Promise." When Texas cut $5.4 billion from public schools, affecting 5 million students, Texans protested and districts sued the state and won. The Texas Promise is the gripping story of equity, politics, money, and our children as Texas and the nation make historic decisions about opportunity, the economy, and our democracy. In #chicagoGirl - The Social Network Takes on a Dictator," six thousand miles away from the protesting and violence of the Syrian Uprising, a 19-year-old college student, Ala'a Basatneh, sacrifices a normal life to aid activists and stimulate communication for the cause online. Filmmakers in attendance. 

Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me 

Alamo Drafthouse Village

"Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me" offers a portrait of the life and career of American music icon Glen Campbell opens to the viewer the world of the singular talent who created hits like Rhinestone Cowboy, Wichita Lineman and Gentle on My Mind. Winner of the highest awards in the music industry, Glen was the first country music star to cross over to the pop charts. In 2011, when Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he joined forces with his family to fight the biggest battle of his life. Featuring interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, The Edge, Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Vince Gill, and Steve Martin, Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me is an epic human story of love, resilience, and the power of song. The Imitation Game

State Theatre

In "The Imitation Game," Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, the genius British mathematician, logician, cryptologist, and computer scientist who led the charge to crack the German Enigma Code that helped the Allies win WWII. Turing went on to assist with the development of computers at the University of Manchester after the war, but was prosecuted by the UK government in 1952 for homosexual acts which the country deemed illegal.

In "Having Fun Up There," a man reconsiders his decision to be a musician as he approaches his 40s. Filmmakers in attendance.

"3 Still Standing" follows three comedians on their 30-year journey to fame, success, and their “big break.” Filmmakers in attendance.

Muutoksii (Changes)

Bullock TexasState History Museum's IMAX Theatre

North American Premiere of Muutoksii (Changes). In "Muutoksii," two 12-year-old boys navigate their intolerant suburb in Eastern Helsinki while holding on to a dangerous secret.

Something, Anything 

Alamo Drafthouse Village

"Something, Anything" is centered in the wake of a life-altering tragedy, when Southern newlywed Peggy confronts a profound spiritual crisis and sets out on a quest to discover a higher purpose. Filmmakers in attendance.
