More than 660 students, their friends and families filled the Frank Erwin Center today to celebrate the achievemens of the Bowie High School class of 2014.
Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz spoke to the crowd about some of the school's awards and accomplishments this year, including U.S. News and World Report's ranking of Bowie among the top high schools in the nation. Bowie also earned the organization's Silver Medal Award for student achievement.
The school has a 96 percent attendance rate, with a school population of 2,780 students.
In extracurricular achievements, the outdoor performing ensemble received the Sudler Shield Award, which recognizes world-class excellence in musical performance, marching execution, choreography and show design.
The Starlight Theater Company was recognized at the Central Texas Excellence in Theater as one of the seven Outstanding Academic Theaters programs among the universities, colleges and public or private high schools across seven central Texas counties.
And the football, baseball, girls and boys basketball, and volleyball teams all won district and moved on to playoff matches. Both the baseball and girls basketball teams reached the regional quarterfinals.
