On April 14, Vincent Torres, president of the AISD Board of Trustees, provided the following update to AISD employees, families and the community:

Dear AISD Community: 



Earlier today, Dr. Meria Carstarphen informed me that she had formally accepted the position of superintendent of the Atlanta Public Schools. On behalf of the entire board, I want to congratulate Dr. Cartstarphen and thank her for her five years of service to our district. We wish her the very best as she leaves the district for this new chapter in her life.



Tomorrow, the board expects to appoint an interim superintendent to lead the district until a permanent superintendent is hired. The board will also take action on a Request for Proposals for the selection of a firm to assist in the search for a permanent superintendent. This Special Board Meeting starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Click here to view the agenda.



I want to assure our school community that the district will continue moving forward as we end this school year. The Board of Trustees is committed to continuing the progress that was made under Dr. Carstarphen’s tenure.
