The Austin Independent School District employs more than 200 counselors who serve our 129 campuses daily. AISD counselors play a tremendous role in helping our students achieve success and plan for the future.
This year, the district invites staff members, families and the community to help us celebrate AISD counselors during National School Counseling Week, Feb. 3-7.
The theme of this year’s recognition week is "School Counseling: Building Magical Futures.” The national week, which is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, is meant to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems.
Counselors can have a tremendous impact in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Watch a video below in which AISD students detail how their counselors have helped them.
Simple Ways to Appreciate AISD Counselors
To assist in commemorating this important event, we've developed and compiled resources to help you celebrate your favorite AISD counselor.
Tips for parents and community:
- Show your gratitude - publicly thank your favorite counselor by sending them a shout out, or read what others have written.
- Share your favorite counselor story - To help shine a spotlight on AISD counselors, we invite you to share your most inspiring or heartwarming story with us about a counselor who changed your (or your child’s) life. Selected stories will be posted on the district website and Facebook page throughout February. Share your story by emailing communications@austinisd.org
- Send flowers. Send a bouquet of flowers to your school counselor.
- Write a Note. Showing appreciation doesn't have to cost money. A parent or student can provide a note listing the top five or ten reasons they like the counselor, or share a specific story of a time the counselor helped their child in school.
No matter how, we hope you find a way to say thank you to these important members of Team AISD! Thank you, AISD Counselors!
