Public Comments

At the beginning of each regular Special Education Family Advisory Committee (SEFAC) meeting, time will be provided for public comments. The total time provided for public comments is limited to 10 minutes, and the time provided to individual speakers is limited to 2 minutes. To sign up to provide public comment at SEFAC, participants must indicate their participation two hours prior to the start of the meeting by completing the digital form or calling the special education department:

If persons who have signed up to speak do not have an opportunity to do so because time runs out, they may provide written comments on a card provided. There will be no dialogue between speakers and the members. In some cases, a speaker may be asked for clarification. After public comments have concluded, speakers are welcome to remain, but no further opportunities to address the advisory body will be provided during the meeting. Speakers and visitors are expected to provide comments in a respectful manner.

Visitors

All regular meetings are open to the public, and visitors are welcome. Meetings will be held at Austin ISD Central Office 4000 S. I-H 35 Frontage Rd. Austin, TX 78704. Visitors are considered anyone present who is not a member of SEFAC. This includes persons who may be attending on behalf of a member. Visitors will be asked to sign the attendance sheet and asked to read these requirements. Visitors who do not wish to sign up to speak under public comments are also welcome to provide written comments on the card provided.

Public Comment FAQ:  

How much time is designated for the public comment section of the SEFAC agenda?

  • 10 minutes total. Individuals will have a maximum of 2 minutes for their comment.
  • There will be a timer on the screen indicating the time remaining.

What is the process for making public comments?

If you would like to sign up for a public comment at a SEFAC meeting, please sign up through the Google Form or by calling 512-414-SPED (7733) two hours prior to the start of the meeting.

Anyone wishing to speak during the public comments portion of the meeting must read and abide by the Citizens Communications Guidelines.

Am I required to state my name when I make a public comment?

Yes. This is an open meeting, and meeting minutes (summary of the meeting) will be posted on the SEFAC website. Please state your name before making your public comment.
