Why enroll in Austin ISD Pre-K?
Families in the city of Austin do not have to look too far for an exceptional Pre-K program. Austin ISD is committed to the well-being of all Austin children. The Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 programs are designed to prepare our youngest students for a lifetime of learning in a nurturing environment that supports curiosity and encourages discovery. Here are some facts about the value of early childhood education (or Pre-K).

Children who attend Pre-K are more productive in school, work and society generally with higher levels of education and earnings.
Pre-K stimulates brain development
The neurological processing in the brains of 3- to 5-year-olds is twice as fast as that of a college student, and as much as three times faster than an adult’s. Attending Pre-K supports brain development.
Pre-K prepares children for lifelong learning.
Children who attend Pre-K experience substantial learning gains in literacy, language and math in kindergarten and beyond.
Pre-K encourages empathy.
Children who attend Pre-K acquire social and emotional skills, such as regulating emotions, sharing with others, and following instructions.

When can families apply for Pre-K?
Priority Registration:
- Starts November 8, 2023 through February 6, 2024
- April 1, 2024 families can begin to upload eligibility documents
It is highly recommended that families register for Pre-K during Priority Registration to express interest in the 24-25 school year until eligibility documents are reviewed in April.
General Registration:
- Starts April 2–August 5
