Govalle invites the community to celebrate its 85th year with a birthday celebration.
When: 4–6:30 p.m. Friday, May 19
What: Festivities include District 2 Trustee Jayme Mathias speaking, along with performances by Govalle Elementary School’s ACE Ballet, ACE Ballet Folklorico and Hip Hop dancers. Generations of Govalle memorabilia will be on display, along with a memory wall. There will also be crafts, a selfie booth with the Roadie mascot, a listening booth and a Google Earth presentation. The Govalle choir and Linder's Mariachi will sing “Las Mananitas” and “Happy Birthday,” along with cake. Kona Ice will also be present.
Background: Govalle Elementary School has served East Austin students since 1931. Govalle offers a variety of programming to prepare students for college, career and life—from arts and athletics to reading and robotics.
Throughout the week, the school will be holding activities, such as Read Across Govalle, ‘Govalle Through the Decades’ spirit week, a handprint mural and a community parade.
