Austin ISD is hosting the Latino Academic Achievement Awards. The ceremony will recognize students for various accomplishments and community leaders for community service, advocacy and volunteerism. When: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6 Where: AISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd. This year, about 300 students in grades 7-12 from all middle schools and high schools will be recognized in the categories listed below: Young Latino Leader - Grades 7-12 Outstanding Academic Progress in an ESL Program - Grades 7-12 Outstanding Academic Progress in a Dual Language Program - Grades 7-8 Fine Arts Award - Grades 9-12 Athletics Award - Grades 9-12 Top Latino Student enrolled in Advanced Placement Courses - Grades 9-12 Latino Students with the Highest GPA - Grades 7-11 Latino Senior with Highest GPA The district will also be recognizing community leaders in the three categories listed below: Latino Community Service Award - Mona Gonzales Latino Excellence in Advocacy Award - Foundation Communities Latino Parent Volunteer Award - Rosa Mar To see a list of honorees since 2009, please visit www.austinisd.org/laaa/past-honorees. ### |
