Anderson coach was named 2012-13 outstanding coach of the year by Texas Association of Basketball Coaches
AUSTIN, Texas—This week, Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Leal Anderson as the district’s new athletics director. Anderson is the men’s basketball coach at Anderson High School and was the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ outstanding coach of the year for 2012-13.
What: Coach Anderson will meet with media to discuss AISD’s athletics programs—from the role of athletics in education to the program’s rich history and the leadership of Tommy Cox, who announced his retirement last year.
When: noon, Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Where: House Park, 1301-1/2 Shoal Creek Blvd. (at the intersection of Lamar Blvd. and 15th St.). The media briefing will be held at the field house, followed by one-on-one interviews and photo opportunities on the field or in the stands.
Background: As athletics director, Anderson will oversee AISD’s sports programs, the district’s participation in Special Olympics and facilities throughout Austin, including Burger Stadium and House Park.
More than 14,000 young athletes participate in the district’s sports programs, which include baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball and wrestling.
