Austin, Texas—The Austin Independent School District will hold a media briefing with AISD Police Chief Eric Mendez to provide information about today's evacuation at Anderson High School due to a bomb threat.
When: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24
Where: AISD, Carruth Administration Center, courtyard, 1111 W. Sixth St.
Background: Late this morning, Anderson High School received a bomb threat. While it was of questionable credibility, out of due caution, the school took this threat seriously and immediately notified AISD Police. Students and staff members were immediately evacuated from the campus, and police performed a thorough search of the school with bomb-detecting dogs.
After police determined the campus was safe, students were allowed to return to their classes and resume the instructional day, including testing. At this time, there is no information to indicate that Anderson students or staff members were in danger.
Anderson High School has about 2,100 students and 220 staff members.
