Travis Early College High School and Travis Graduation Prep Academy honored around 270 seniors at their graduation ceremony this afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center.

Student in the Class of 2018 recorded several noteworthy accomplishments:

• Ashamarie Benitez Rivera was recognized for winning first place for the USA at an international weightlifting competition in Colombia.  
• KriShonna Jones was named MVP and outstanding hitter in volleyball and was selected first team all-district.    
• Romiyo Barnes, who was the recipient of Trustee Awards, was recognized for strong leadership ability throughout his four years of high school  
• Micki Cleveland-Cora was recognized for her success in creative writing, having had 19 original stories published.
• Jacob Mendez is a National American Vision Recipient for Scholastic Art and Writing, in addition to various other accolades including National Scholastic Gold Key Recipient, National Scholastic Silver Key Recipient, and two-time Regional Gold Key Scholastic Recipient    
• Amabilia Aguilar and Aracely Moran were recognized as Rebelette senior officers.
• Ivan Naverette was recognized as District 13 5A wrestling champion in the 113-pound weight class, winning Silver at the 5A Region 4 wrestling tournament.
• Carlos David Esparza Castillo was recognized as a three-year graduate of the Travis Graduate Preparatory Academy. 

Valedictorian David Thang talked about remaining optimistic and moving forward, even in the face of hardship and adversity.

"Take every positive opportunity presented to you," he said. "You never know what the end result will be if you don’t take advantage of the opportunity."
