In honor of Custodian Appreciation Week, the district’s Communications Office sat down with Ronnie Trevino, who works in AISD’s central offices.

When did you join AISD?

In July 2008. I subbed for three years for the service center and came to CAC in July 2011.

What made you want to work for AISD

I had been laid off from my job working for a medical company making heart valves and a childhood friend told me to apply. I went to Austin public schools and love giving back. 

What are some of your responsibilities?

I handle any meeting held in the CAC boardroom and break down the board auditorium and set it up for the next event. I also ensure all the containers are picked up and empty and I make sure work areas are kept nice and clean.  

What do you most like about your job?

I love the people. The people I work for and communicate are great, and I’ve met some very nice people who are very respectful. They’re good people to be around. I love being in contact with different people and being able to help them. 

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Having to make sure the place is nice and clean because it’s really hard work and is such a big area.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

I like car and motorcycle races and I’ve been to an F1 race.

Who do you most look up to and why?

My brother, who passed away in 2004, was a fireman and I looked up to him. He went to Ground Zero with 30 firefighters for two months after 9/11 to help. He taught me to always keep a straight head and don’t take anything from anybody. And he taught me to be truthful about things, work hard and have pride in what you do.

If you could invite five people to dinner, who would they be?

Dale Earnhardt, Greg Goodman, Kathy (who works in the police station), Mick Jagger, Johnny Depp.

The Bucket List

If you could give students any advice, what would it be?

I don’t care how old a person is, respect them and listen to them.
