AISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen joined distinguished speakers, including Bill Gates, at this year's SXSWedu conference, where innovative thinkers and doers tackled some of the most important issues in education—from standards and assessment to achievement gaps and educational equality.
As one of the event's "Distinguished Speakers,” Superintendent Carstarphen discussed “The Changing Face of Public Education: Today’s Learners. Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
More than 10,000 educators and policy and industry leaders came together to drive conversations and collaborations around education and learning.

AISD's communications worked with three AISD student journalists from Bowie, LASA/LBJ and Travis to cover SXSWEdu for their school newspapers the district’s website, the district's social media channels and the event blog. In addition to covering the superintendent’s remarks and the college fair, the students had the opportunity to interview industry leaders from companies such as Google.

Channel 22 Covers AISD's Participation in SXSWedu and SXSW Interactive Conference and Music Festival
AISD's Channel 22 team covered AISD's participation in SXSWedu, including the Future Plans College and Career Fair. The district provided students with transportation to the fair from Akins, Eastside Memorial and Reagan high schools. Students also had the opportunity to design their own “moo” business cards to share with college recruiters and business representatives.
